The Goldpine Post – OCTOBER 2021

This month’s theme for The Goldpine Post focuses on other animals. We showcase the largest goat farm in New Zealand, Oete/Oakdale Farm. Owned by Matthew and Sarah Bolton, their business has been operating for the last seven years. They produce high-quality goat’s milk from a farm that is thriving with healthy and happy goats.

Our other profile features Raglan-based small business, Hunt and Gather Bee Co. Rory and Hannah O’Brien have created an award-winning, raw New Zealand honey business with a focus on sustainability and bee welfare.

We take a look at long-standing organisation, Rural Women New Zealand (RWNZ), and the support that they provide to women in the agricultural sector. Along with this, we had the opportunity to speak with three RWNZ members about their experiences.

The State of the Industry piece this month provides information on the pork, honey, poultry and goat sectors. We spoke with members of the pork and alpaca community to share their views on the sectors.

Lockdown hasn’t been easy on a lot of us. We share highlights from New Zealand Young Farmers (NZYF) webinar on ‘The Big 3 on Wellbeing’. This webinar focused on conversations with rural mental health advocates Kane Brisco, Tangaroa Walker and Elle Perriam.

All this and more inside.
