We visit Black Peak Farming, where Ben and Rebecca (Bex) Trotter have built a diverse operation beneath the Southern Alps. What began as a traditional farming business has evolved into a connected system spanning beef bull finishing, pick-your-own strawberries, and commercial herb and leafy-green production. Their story is one of innovation, family and finding smarter ways to grow food close to consumers.

We then head north to Otawin Farm in Taranaki, where a focus on productivity, performance and long-term planning continues to drive results. Their approach highlights the importance of adapting to changing conditions while remaining grounded in the values that have always underpinned successful farming businesses.

Practical advice remains front and centre this month, with fencing expert Eric Green sharing how he efficiently removes a broken strainer.
