The Post October 2025
This October, The Post is all about sheep - the farmers who raise them, the land they graze, and the ideas shaping their future. From high country stations to community milestones, we’re bringing you stories from across the regions.
We begin with a broad look at the state of sheep farming in New Zealand, followed by a visit to Mount Campbell Station in Alexandra. There, the Sanders family are balancing tradition with innovation with merino wool in the heart of the high country.
Next, fencing expert John Noakes shares a practical tip that’ll make jobs on the farm a little easier using a GOFENCE permanent wire strainer. Then it’s over to Hawke’s Bay to hear from Dean Martin at Glenlands Farm, where their shedding sheep stud is reshaping traditional sheep farming.
Next, we head to the Waikato, where Lloyd Harvey’s 6-bay Goldpine shed stores and protects valuable timber.
At the top of the South Island, we visit Marlborough’s Kaituna Ridges, where resilience, diversification into wine production, tourism, clothing, and community have lifted this family-run sheep farm.
This edition also celebrates 100 years of Rural Women New Zealand - a century of strengthening communities, supporting families, and championing rural life. And, as always, we round things off with the State of the Industry, giving you the latest on where New Zealand’s sheep sector stands today.
We intend to continue supplying you with the best stories, activities and techniques in agriculture. If you have anything that you would like us to share, please get in touch.
