The Post June 2025

In the June edition of The Post, we’re talking all things beef. We kick off with an overview of the shifting global beef market – where it’s headed, what it means for New Zealand, and how our farmers not just adapt, but lead the charge in a rapidly evolving industry.

First stop on the roadie is Fossil Creek Angus in North Otago, where data-driven breeding and sustainability power one of the South Island’s top Angus studs. Then it’s down to Invercargill, where Mark Buckingham of M&J Fencing walks us through his method of installing a panel of boards at the end of a gate with a circular saw.

Next, we head to the top of the South Island to Ellis Creek Farm in Golden Bay, where Lowline Angus cattle are sustainably raised and ethically processed on-site using a mobile abattoir. In the Waikato, the Ormsby family – five generations deep in farming tradition – use their Goldpine sheds to streamline operations while honouring a proud legacy.

Finally, in Southland, we spotlight We Hunt Food Charitable Trust. Their mission: turning overabundant deer into much-needed protein for food banks, addressing food insecurity while supporting conservation.

This month’s State of the Industry article takes a deep dive into the current landscape of New Zealand’s beef sector, featuring insights from key leaders and individuals within the industry.

Join us as we explore the future of New Zealand beef and the people shaping it.

We intend to continue supplying you with the best stories, activities and techniques in agriculture. If you have anything that you would like us to share, please get in touch.
