The Post July 2024

Welcome to the July edition of The Post. This month, we focus on the hops industry and celebrate leaders in their field from two key parts of the beer supply chain. In Tapawera, we met with Hayden Oldham, farm manager of New Hoplands – a fourth generation hop farm. Hayden cultivates a diverse array of hop varieties to meet market demands, whilst maintaining his passion and commitment to organic farming and sustainable practices.

In Auckland, we met with Dave Huff, head brewer at Urbanaut; a local brewery and tap room specialising in craft beer and known for pushing the envelope. Dave provided valuable insight into their selection process for New Zealand hops, the importance of building stronger relationships between hop growers and brewers, and how Urbanaut remain dynamic within an ever-evolving industry.

The national agricultural Fieldays returned to Mystery Creek from the 12th to 15th of June, and featured the best fencing contractors from across the country competing in the iconic New Zealand Fencing Competitions (NZFC).

While we were in the Waikato, we caught up with Greg Burton, a fencing contractor based in Karapiro. Greg showed us how to tie off an end insulator.

Our State of the Industry article for this month focuses on the hops sector. We talk to key leaders and individuals within the industry as they share their insights and experiences.

We intend to continue supplying you with the best stories, activities and techniques in agriculture. If you have anything that you would like us to share, please get in touch.
