The Goldpine Post
November 2022
Welcome to the November edition of The Goldpine Post. This month, we take a look at the deer industry and find out the benefits of incorporating this inquisitive animal into farming operations. We visited Willowglen Farms in Ranfurly, Otago as Becks Smith took us for a tour around their 700-hectare deer, sheep and beef property.
Mike Renner was working on a deer fencing project for the Marlborough District Council Farm Park Boundary and he showed us how to install a half-box stay on a deer fence.
In rural Hawke’s Bay, we caught up with Caroline Smith who owns and operates Chipinga, a 250-hectare deer, cattle and cashmere farm. Caroline has instilled in her daughters the mentality to work hard and never stop trying because girls can do anything.
All Goldpine stores will be hosting The Annual Goldpine Gumboot Throw on 4 November in support of Gumboot Friday, a mental well-being initiative that raises funds for free counselling and support for young Kiwis in need.
We visited Mark Hayward and his new STRONGBUILT® shed in Timaru, South Canterbury. Mark worked with Goldpine to customise the shed to make it exactly as he had envisioned. He is now looking forward to building a race car in his newly completed farm building.
Our State of the Industry article for the month focuses on deer, with insights from key leaders from a range of different backgrounds within the sector.
We intend to continue supplying you with the best stories, activities and techniques in agriculture. If you have anything that you would like us to share, please get in touch.
