Be Aware of Thinnings
What are thinnings and why are they significant?
Fence posts made from thinnings will not last the distance. Make sure you are buying mature high density wood. Below is a description of the signs to look out for:
Section 1: Cross section of a thinning post
Note the fewer growth rings and the wide spaces between each ring. This is an immature and weak log.
Section 2: Cross section of a mature post
This is cut from a 28+ year old tree and has over 20 tightly packed growth rings. This is a mature and strong tree.
At Goldpine, we have built our reputation on quality product, therefore all Goldpine posts are sourced from mature trees in high density forests.
