Use wood wherever possible
Rising levels of CO2 are recognised as being associated with global warming and will result in serious environmental consequences if steps are not taken to reduce emissions. Increasing levels of CO2 are a result of burning fossil fuels and tropical rainforest deforestation, whereas new forest growth from both indigenous and plantation forestry can actually remove carbon from the air.
Plantation Pinus Radiata forests in New Zealand are extremely beneficial in combatting the ever-growing emissions around the world. In the lifecycle, a seedling is planted and grows into a tree by sequestering carbon. Once that tree hits maturity and therefore reduces the amount it sequesters, the best result is that the tree is harvested and a new seedling is planted in its place. When harvesting a tree, we need to make use of the carbon store by creating a Harvested Wood Product (HWP), and the longer lasting… the better. It just so happens that a treated fence post has one of the longest lifespans of any HWP.
The world's climate has always changed and human activities have triggered an unusually rapid and severe warming with associated effects such as massive droughts, floods and sea-level rises.
Using timber from certified renewable plantation forests can help to combat these effects. We are extremely proud of our products and, much like the United Nations and the New Zealand Government, we strongly encourage the increased use of wood throughout New Zealand. Use wood wherever possible.
