Glenn Blackmore: Blackmore Fencing, Marlborough

Blackmore Fencing Ltd

See Glenn Blackmore's Tip

The last time we caught up with Glenn Blackmore, it was after he finished a multi-day adventure race through Rotorua’s stunning landscapes for GODZone last year.

Glenn didn’t compete in this year’s race with the GOFENCE® team, and after comments from the team on how challenging it was, he was more than happy to have sat this one out.

We visited Glenn and his full-time worker, Josh, while they installed an exclusion fence around a reservoir in Renwick. Glenn has been fencing for around 25 years covering the Marlborough region, working predominantly in the Wairau Valley, Blenheim and out towards Awatere and Rai Valley.

Blackmore Fencing specialise in rural farm fencing but work on a lot of vineyard developments from September through to December/January. During that period, Glenn and Josh dedicate their whole time to trellis work, intermediates, strainers and stays for the viticulture sector. The rest of the time they do a variety of different fencing projects, including farm, residential, lifestyle and security fencing. When asking Glenn what his favourite type of fencing entails, he immediately replied with hill country fencing. “Hilltop fencing is where you’re out in the backblocks. You see some great views and have some good hills to climb up and down.”

Glenn jokingly talked about how he’s getting a bit older now, but he still enjoys running and a bit of adventure racing. He hasn’t done too much of that recently due to injury; instead, he’s been coaching his kid’s rugby team and spending time with the family. His wife Danielle was one of the support crew members for the GOFENCE® team at GODZone last year. She is currently doing a bit of work for Marlborough Basketball. Glenn isn’t looking at doing GODZone again at this stage, but his words resounded with a never say never mentality.

With the busy workload that ensues, Glenn hired an extra helping hand (part-time) who was starting the day after we visited. If you’re in need of some fencing requirements within the Marlborough region, get in touch with Blackmore Fencing; the team of three will be more than happy to help you out!
